"Growing up, watching my dad struggle with his club feet has given me a unique insight into the day to day challenges my patients face. I love being able to make their lives just a little bit easier. As an adult and Specialist Podiatrist, I now look after my dads feet!"
Zoe's journey took her to University where she completed a BSc Hons in Podiatry. As part of her degree she completed 1000 hours clinical practice - that's 1000 hours working with feet.
After graduating Zoe completed a postgraduate certificate in Sports Podiatry and is a specialist in Biomechanics and Podiatric Surgery. What is a Podiatrist, Chiropodist & foot Health Practitioner?
Podiatrist is the modern name for chiropodist. Podiatrist is a Greek word meaning foot doctor. Chiropodist translates to hand and foot.
There are different training courses available for Podiatrists, Chiropodists & Foot Health Practitioners.
To become a Podiatrist, students complete an approved BSc Podiatry degree and register with the Heath Professions Council (HPC). During the 3 year degree they compete over 1000 hours clinical practice.
A foot health practitioner is neither degree qualified or registered with the HPC, they are not regulated by a professional medical body. They have home studied for a year and completed 5 or 10 days clincal practice before qualifyilng. If you are struggling to reach your toes and are otherwise in good health a foot health practitioner may be able to trim your nails to help maintain healthy feet.
Does it matter who I see?
If your general health is not as good as it should be, then you should consult a Podiatrist. A Podiatrist is best placed to treat patients suffering with diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, circulation problems, stroke and ms.
