Verrucae
What are verrucae?
Verrucae are small warts that are usually found on the bottom of the feet.
They may appear similar in appearance to corns, but, the surface of the verrucae will have small black dots, and may have a cauliflower appearance. They can cause discomfort - as though you have a stone in your shoe - causing you to alter your walking style.
Verrucae are caused by a virus, like a flu virus some people are more susceptible than others, depending on the health of your immune system. They are thought to be acquired when the foot comes into contact with the virus in damp environments, (although this theory has never been proven). Verrucae have several different presentations, their most distinguishing feature is that they interrupt the pattern (finger print) of the skin.
Treatment & Prevention
Dry Needling
Dry needling is an innovative and highly effective treatment for stubbon Verruca.
It is carried out painlessly under local anaesthetic. A needle is then use to punture the Verrucae multiple times. This pushes the Verrucae into the body, initiating the immune response. The Verruca is then dressed for 24 hours and you can carry on as normal. Most people only report slight soreness for a few days.
It only requires one, very occasionaly two treatments.
If you have a stubbon Verrucae you would like to get rid off, book a dry needling appointment today.
